12 March 2016

Leicester  38 v Lincoln 49

  • Quarter 1 - Leic 10 Linc 8
  • Quarter 2 - Leic 20 Linc 21
  • Quarter 3 - Leic  30 Linc  36
  • Quarter 4 - Leic 38  Linc 49
A young side again today. The first quarter saw a few nerves from Leicester and Lincoln went 3 nil up. Leicester began to settle and calm downed and created few interceptions which they took to goal. Once Leicester levelled the scores it saw both teams go goal for goal, then in the last minute Leicester broke Lincoln centre pass and scored off it then held their own centre pass to lead by 2 goals. In the 2nd quarter Leicester made 1 change - Alicia to WD, she immediately had an impact and caused alot of problems for the WA.

Both teams made errors and Lincoln would go 2 goals in front then Leicester would fight back. In the last five minutes both teams composed themselves and held their own centre pass. At the end of the quarter Linxs lead by 1. 3rd quarter saw a few changes for Leicester, Ellie introduced to GS, Alicia moved to WA and Shalyna back on at WD.

Leicester found their rhythm and ball got to goal bit easier, however lincs were applying more pressure on us, few errors came from Leicester and lincs capitalised taking a few goals lead.  A few changes came in the 4th quarter as few legs were tired and Leicester took a while to settle and several minutes without a goal, this has an impact as lincs built on their lead - Leicester regrouped and now started to fight back, they closed the gap to 11 - nut we left bit too late this week.

A very young squad today against Northants.  Leicester started quite slowly showing signs of nerves as Northants raced to 10 - 3 in the first few minutes of the first quarter, then once nerves settled Leicester re-grouped and began the fight back creating turnovers and taking to goal and holding their own centre pass, ending the quarter 1 goal behind Northants. Beth moved to WA and Rachael to C and Rhea to bench for the second quarter, this worked really well as Beth showed great attack play. This was such a strong battle from both teams going goal for goal - quarter ended both teams same score. Third quarter same with Darcie entering for Leicester at WD, again both teams applying pressure well and patiently taking ball to goal. Few errors occurred from both teams however it was still goal for goal. Final quarter saw one change Alicia back on WD and Darcie to bench. This was amazing still goal for goal and few nerves began to creep in as in last few minutes of the game - few errors from Leicester allowed Northants to get turnover and score then hold their own centre pass. The game ended 39 Leic to Northants 42. A massive improved performance from Leicester - a well fought game.

Well done to all the athletes who participated, this was a really enjoyable experience where the athletes could practice their new skills and try to implement them into the game. Thank you to Sue and Wendy at Market Harborough for allowing us to play at your venue, it was a great night of netball where all athletes learn't, had fun and now can work hard to develop their skills further.
